PROUD pupils from Rodbourne Cheney Primary School celebrated after coming in the top 10 in a national dancing competition.
The Elite Team of young dancers from the school came ninth in The Great Big Dance Off final after facing competition from dozens of teams.
The Rodbourne Cheney team had come fourth in the regional heat for the South of England at the Wyvern Theatre in March, which was enough to send them through to the Primary Grand Final in Oxford, where they competed against 34 primary schools from all over England and Wales.
The school’s dance teacher Bobby Newman was thrilled by her pupils’ performance.
She said: “They were extremely nervous but I think the nerves turned into excitement.
“They were absolutely ecstatic to perform on a big stage. It’s quite overwhelming considering they have no dance background, they’ve all worked so hard.
“We’re extremely pleased with the result, they did us proud.”
The Great Big Dance Off is a national schools dance competition in England which aims to provide a fun and enjoyable opportunity for young people to dance on a professional stage.
It’s the only dance competition aimed solely at schools. The Secondary School Grand Final will follow later this month.
