A SWINDON man attacked a man he saw leaving his ex-partner’s house because he felt his daughter was at risk, a court heard.
John Loveridge, 46, of Caxton Close, pleaded guilty to assault at Swindon Magistrates' Court.
Kate Prince, prosecuting, told the court that a man had been helping a friend outside with some DIY when Loveridge went over, called the man a pervert and grabbed him by the neck.
A tussle resulted and the two wrestled on the floor until they were separated when the police arrived.
Emma Thacker, defending, said Loveridge was concerned the man was on a register and was worried about his daughter when he saw him leaving his ex-partner’s house.
The judge told Loveridge: “I can barely describe this as vigilante justice as it was not planned. You overstepped the line.”
He sentenced Loveridge to a 12-month community order to include completing a thinking skills course and attending 15 rehabilitation activity days.
He was ordered to pay £50 in compensation to the victim.
