Visitors to Roves Farm this weekend will get a first look at four fluffy new arrivals.

The female guinea pigs moved into their new home at Roves Farm, near Highworth, on Wednesday.

Bosses hope that fans of the farm park can come up with wacky names for the cute quartet, who were busy settling into their new surroundings last night. Roves Farm have offered a free farm ticket to each person who suggests a name that eventually gets picked for the new animals.

The guinea pigs are aged between 10 and 12 weeks and will be used for breeding new young. The animals were bought from Cheney Manor pet shop Paradise Pets.

Georgia Morgan, 24, activity team leader at Roves Farm, said: “The guinea pigs are lovely. They’re a little bit shy at the moment and they have a really sweet temperament.”

The animals were taken out of their hutch on Wednesday evening, getting them used to being handled. “They were a little bit skittish,” Georgia said.

On Thursday the guinea pigs were snapped sitting in their wood chipping strewn hutch, nibbling strips of carrot. The four guinea pigs are a mix of colours, from light tan to black and white.

Visitors to Rove Farm will be able to see the four new arrivals this weekend. Georgia said: “We can get them out for visitors to stroke.”

According to farm worker Georgia, the farm is a good place to handle different animals with a view to buying a pet.

“It can give parents an idea of what their children are like with animals and it’s a good chance to ask to ask questions if you’re not sure how to look after, say, a guinea pig.”

Drove Farm will be running their name-a-guinea-pig competition this week. For more, visit: www.facebook.com/RovesFarmVC
