THE Wild West rolled into town at the weekend as Rodbourne Cheney Primary School hosted a cowboy themed fun day.

The brilliantly staged extravaganza saw members of the local community young and old come out in force to take part in a range of fun-filled activities.

From football to face painting there was something for everyone.

The pièce de résistance was an elaborate show performed in a pop-up town complete with a saloon and stables. The kids loved it and, clearly, so too did the mums and dads.

There was even a special guest appearance from a few adorable alpacas, whom most of the children wanted to take home immediately.

Lisa Davies, head teacher, said: “It has been absolutely amazing so far, everybody has really enjoyed it. The cowboys came a few years ago and their show went down really well, so we thought we would bring them back as it adds something special to the fun day.

“We invited the whole community and it’s great to see so many people turn up, it has made for a really good community atmosphere.”

There was a fancy dress competition in which the finest looking John Waynes and Calamity Janes were given prizes.

Juicy hot dogs and burgers were sizzling away and those feeling lucky tried to see what they could win on the tombola.

Carol Martin, 38, had come with her two sons Marshall, 12, and Alastair, 10, both of whom had dressed the part.

Carol said: “I don’t think kids play cowboys and Indians anymore, so this is a good chance to do something that I used to do as a kid.

“Things like this are all about friends and neighbours getting together to have a laugh and a joke in the sunshine – can’t complain really.”
