AFTER a fabulous launch party on Saturday, the Old Town Festival carried on in spectacular fashion on Sunday morning as crowds gathered in Wood Street to see the parade.

Singers and dancers in colourful and outrageous costumes got the party started as the lively procession snaked along Wood Street and towards The Lawn.

South Swindon MP Robert Buckland and Mayor Maureen Penny thanked everyone for coming along as well as all those who had put their time and effort into making the parade a fantastic success.

From lunchtime, a host of pop and rock bands took to the stage at The Lawn and entertained the crowds.

There was plenty on offer for revellers to enjoy, from a traditional fairground to everybody’s favourite: a tail waggingly brilliant dog show.

The College of Chivalry were on hand to give people a few tips on how to be a medieval knight of the realm and a host of other acts, from jugglers to magicians, made it a day to remember.

Sinead O’Donnell, from West Swindon, had come along with her partner Rick Edwards. Sinead, 27, said: “I thought the parade was good this morning, you could see that everybody had put a lot of effort in.

“I thought the dancers were fantastic, it even made me want to have a little dance myself.”

Sinead and Rick planned to spend most of the afternoon soaking up the Sunday sun before heading home in the evening.

Stuart Blanchard, 32, who lives in the town centre, came to last year’s festival and was hoping his daughter Alicia, 6, would enjoy herself just as much this year.

“This sort of thing is great for the kids,” he said. “It’s good to get them out the house and taking part in proper activities.”
