SINGING sensation Lewis Blissett has sailed through to the semi-finals of The Voice Kids and is now one of 12 youngsters in the running to win the show.

The 13-year-old from Old Town sang his little heart out on Sunday night during the battles round, joining two other contestants to perform a rendition of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud.

Judge Pixie Lott had a tough job picking just one contestant to go through to the semi-finals but to Lewis’ surprise and amazement she announced the Commonweal pupil had been successful.

Leaving the stage in tears, Lewis said he was overcome with emotion as the song was out of his comfort zone.

“I didn’t expect it at all,” the teen said.

“The other two were really good and so I didn’t think I would get through at all.

“I wasn’t 100 per cent happy with the song but I guess they were trying to make it a challenge for me. It was quite a simple song and that is not what I usually go for which is why I was in such a shock when Pixie said my name.

"Pixie has been great and she is truthful but doesn’t say it in a hurtful way.”

Lewis is proving to be quite the hit with his adoring fans in the town with dozens turning out to cheer him on when he performed at the WrdeUp Festival in Highworth on Saturday.

The youngster, who has been singing from a young age having grown up with music in the family, has high hopes to follow in the footsteps of his idols Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato and pursue a career in the industry — hoping his appearance on The Voice Kids opens up many doors for him.

Lewis’ mum Kelly Newman beamed with pride as she spoke of her son’s success.

“He was quite nervous about the performance because of the song choice but obviously he smashed it,” she said.

“It is all a bit of an emotional rollercoaster at the moment.

“The whole thing is really exciting and even if he doesn’t make it through to the final, he has still made it to the final 12 from well over 20,000 kids.”

Lewis will next appear on the popular ITV series this weekend to fight for one of two spots available in Pixie’s team ahead of the final.
