A GLITTERING evening of music is promised when the Swindon Young Musicians’ senior bands and ensembles stage their gala performance at the Wyvern Theatre tonight.

Also on stage to entertain visitors will be the acclaimed Waterloo Band and Bugles of the Rifles, who have not long returned from Lourdes in France. They are led by their conductor Major Peter Clark. Besides being a distinguished Army reservist musician, Peter heads up the Swindon Music Service.

Other conductors bringing out the best from the young musicians will be Jason Wrobel, who will be conducting the SYM Jazz Orchestra, Bob Ghigi, conducting the SYM Clarinet Choir, Paul Ashman, conducting the SYM Percussion Ensemble, Milly Phillpin, conducting the SYM Guitar Ensemble and Lynn Hawkins, who will conduct the SYM Choir.

Lynn, the Swindon Music Service Singing Champion, will also be making a guest appearance as a singer.

In all over 100 youth and Army musicians will be performing at the concert, the youngest just eight years old.

The concert starts at 7pm and free tickets for the concert are available from the Wyvern Box Office on 01793 524481 or at https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/mapSelect.asp

“The event is completely free but people have to book tickets, available via the Wyvern Box Office or online. Swindon Music Service, run by Swindon Borough Council, offers the town’s young people a whole range of musical opportunities and training, and can even lend instruments. Further information is available via the music service’s website: www.swindonmusicservice.org. ”

Coun Fionuala Foley, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and School Attainment, added: “I am delighted that our young musicians will have yet another opportunity to show off their talents in such a spectacular venue, and playing alongside some of the Army’s best musicians is bound to rub off on them.

“Swindon Music Service do a terrific job and if you haven’t been to one of their concerts before I would encourage you to pop down on Tuesday as it promises to be a great night of musical entertainment.”
