A SCHOOL that was previously told to improve has been jumping with joy this week after seeing their Ofsted rating move up to good.

Back in 2015 Peatmoor Community Primary School was told to drive up their education standards by Ofsted as teaching was found to be not effective enough.

But in the months that followed, staff worked hard to address the issues raised and now a few days before the end of term, Ofsted has told the Peatmoor that they are now rated as good.

In her report, Ofsted Inspector Catherine Beeks said that it was the “calm but unremitting determination of the headteacher” that allowed the school to flourish and gain such an achievement.

She added: “Teachers use their good subject knowledge to develop pupils’ learning in a wide range of subjects. However, pupils are not consistently expected to develop and apply their writing and mathematical skills in other subjects.

“Leaders, including governors, have worked with notable success to improve the school since the previous inspection.

"They are not prepared to rest on their laurels and are dedicated to working purposefully and productively to achieve the highest possible standards. As a result, pupils’ outcomes continue to rise steadily. Progress for disadvantaged pupils and pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities is rising rapidly.

“The culture of the school embraces fairness and equality and leaders are quick to challenge unkind words or actions. Adults share the stories of Malala Yousafzai and John Newton to illustrate the devastating consequences of extremism, persecution and control.

"Presented in a way that pupils can understand, the stories powerfully highlight the importance of standing up for people’s rights and fighting injustice.”

Despite the shower of praise, the education regulator also told the school that other tweaks can be made in order for them to be awarded an outstanding mark including identifying when teaching needs to improve for specific groups of pupils.

Headteacher at Peatmoor Primary, Donna Eaton said she was over the moon to get the glowing report from Ofsted.

"I am so pleased that Peatmoor has been recognised as the good school it is,” she added.

"The pupils, parents, staff and governors have all worked together to address areas for development since our previous inspection in June 2015.

"There is something very special about life at Peatmoor and we look forward to building on our success over the coming years."
