A WALCOT youngster won her classmates a ‘wish come true’ tour of a brand-new bus.

Bosses at Thamesdown were delighted when Mountford Manor Primary School pupil Scarlett Manning wrote to them, saying how much she liked their new buses.

The ten-year-old, who is in Year 5 at the Walcot East school, wrote a letter to Thamesdown earlier this summer.

Scarlett said that she travelled to school on the number two bus – but hoped she could take a ride on one of the company’s eight new vehicles.

She wrote: “I keep wishing that I will get to go on a new bus, because it looks cool. But we always get an old bus.”

Scarlett and her classmates at Mountford Manor got a wonderful surprise, when Thamesdown granted her wish – and gave the Year 5 youngsters a tour round one of the new buses.

Alex Chutter, Thamesdown general manager, said: “We couldn’t resist taking a bus from our new fleet to Scarlett at her school, giving her and her classmates an opportunity to take a good look around it.

“Everyone had a great time exploring the bus and chatting to our driver about how it works. I’m glad we were able to make Scarlett’s wish come true.”

Christopher Fox, Year 5 teacher at Mountford Manor Primary School, said: “It was great to see that small voices can be heard by big companies.

“So often in class we will encourage the children to write letters to persuade others. This has really shown that it has a purpose and an effect.”
