FIREFIGHTERS rushed to a two-car collision on Drove Road this evening.

The accident involved a blue Suzuki Swift car and a black Volkswagen Touran.

A DHL delivery van, which is believed to have been following the blue Suzuki, was stopped at the scene.

A crew from Royal Wootton Bassett was called to the busy road at 5.13pm today.

The front bumper of the Volkswagen had been crushed in the accident, while the blue Suzuki had a heavily dented bonnet and was missing its right-hand side front lights.

A senior fire officer at the scene said that he did not want to speculate on the possible cause of the crash, but believed it was a slow speed collision.

Three passengers were being checked for injuries by firefighters. The fire officer at the scene did not believe the injuries were serious, but said that an ambulance had been called as a precaution. One woman who lived nearby was offering to make sweet tea for the injured passengers.

A local resident said: “I heard a loud bang. I’ve never heard any accident like it. Quite a few of us came out. By the time we had come out of our houses it was all under control.”

The accident left long queues of traffic stretching down Drove Road and up past Christ Church. One lane of the road had been closed and police officers were directing traffic past the accident.
