SWINDON Robins made it a magnificent seven SGB Premiership wins in a row and five in the space of eight days when they ran riot against Rye House Rockets this evening.

That run of form stretches back to the last time the Rockets visited the Abbey Stadium on June 15 and has fired Swindon into the thick of the play-off shake-up.

Skipper Jason Doyle led the charge with an unbeaten 12-point haul, while Nick Morris (11+2) and David Bellego (11) were not far behind.

In fact, no Robins rider scored fewer than five points as Alun Rossiter’s side recorded their biggest win of the season – trumping the 56-36 success they recorded away at Poole Pirates 24 hours earlier.

Team manager Rossiter said: “It was a bit like last night, we’ve been in control right from the start two nights on the trot. It’s nice, my heart is not racing and I am not jumping about.

“Everyone scored at least five points and I can’t argue with that.

“Someone like David Bellego has been outstanding all season and then you’ve got Tobiasz Musielak, who has come in over the last week, immediately looked comfortable on the bike and fitted in well with the team.

“And look at Zach Wajtknecht. Nobody expected him to even score a point and now he is winning races and beating decent riders. He is doing a fantastic job, they all are and I can’t ask much more than that.”

Swindon made a winning start to the night as Doyle swung wide around the first two bends to appear out in front in a shared Heat One.

The disappointment at a missed heat advantage did not last long as Swindon took a very comfortable maximum in the second race. A masterful start by Adam Ellis saw him with a hefty lead as he reached the back straight, while Zach Wajtknecht squeezed out Ben Morley in the charge off the line behind.

Bellego continued the home side’s perfect start in Heat Three, riding a beautiful first couple of bends to dive between the Rye House pair and come out in front. There was more drama at the finish as Bradley Wilson-Dean snuck past Rohan Tungate out of the final bend to snatch third.

Scott Nicholls finally broke Swindon’s winning run in Heat Four but Morris and Wajtknecht did at least ensure the points were evenly split.

Swindon were back on the front foot in the next race thanks to a superb start from Bellego but the real race was behind as Wilson-Dean rode a beauty behind to fend off Chris Harris.

That put the Robins 20-10 up after five races and with Rye House badly in need of points, they sent Nicholls out on a tactical ride in the next but it backfired spectacularly. Doyle had the race won out of the gate and Tobiasz Musielak pulled off a superb move on the Rockets skipper for third to deny him any points.

The home side continued to pile on the points as Morris and Musielak claimed their maiden victories of the night in races seven and eight, both with heat advantages too.

It took until Heat Nine for the Rockets to finally get a heat advantage as Nicholls won at a canter but all the drama came on the last lap. Bellego seemed to have second sewn up, only for his bike to pack up in the closing metres, but Wilson-Dean swooped by both him and Stuart Robson to go from last to second on the final bend.

The Robins responded in rampant fashion, with as easy a maximum as you will see. Doyle got his natural lightning start, with team-mate Musielak the only man to get anywhere near him as the hosts moved 39-21 up after 10 races.

Morris was swiftly away and clear to win the next and Wajtknecht denied Rye House a share of the points when he pulled off a stunning move on Robson on the penultimate lap.

Swindon’s overall victory was secured with three races to spare as Wilson-Dean took second behind Tungate, although a wobble on lap two denied the Kiwi a deserved victory.

That result was a bit of an anti-climax but the Robins ensured there were proper celebrations in the next as Doyle led home Morris in a dominant 5-1 before Bellego followed up with another home win in the penultimate contest.

Bellego looked on course to finish the evening with back-to-back wins in the finale but Nicholls spotted a gap on the final lap to sneak by to earn just a third win of the night for the visitors.

However, that did not blemish what was another brilliant night for the Robins, with a packed Abbey Stadium there to witness their team’s heroics, with Rossiter praising the vital role supporters play.

“We had great support today and I am pleased with that,” said Rossiter.

“We are doing our job and now it’s down to the fans to come and back us. Without them, we can’t be competitive, we can’t get riders like Tobiasz and David.

“If the fans don’t come, we can’t invest in the club.”
