MUM Julie Basleigh, who inspired others with her fight against a brain tumour, has died.

The 40-year-old was admitted to Prospect Hospice in Wroughton earlier this month after her condition deteriorated and the heartbreaking decision was made in June not to carry on treatment. The move was to keep her comfortable so she could spend her remaining time with her loved ones.

In a statement on social media yesterday her family said: “We are sad to announce that after bravely battling a brain tumour for the past two and-a-half years Julie Basleigh passed away peacefully last night.”

They thanked everyone who had supported them and the medical fund set up in the hope of gaining more time for her to be with her young daughters.

Julie, from Redhouse, discovered she had a glioblastoma multiforme tumour after she suffered a seizure in November 2014. It was the same aggressive condition that had killed her father Richard a decade before.

It was removed in an operation and she underwent chemotherapy and radio therapy. At first it looked as though the treatment had been a success and she was able to go back to a normal life, working at Nationwide. She also married partner Tony.

But in January last year she suffered a small seizure and doctors said the tumour was back. A fundraising campaign was started to pay for experimental treatment that could extend her life.

At the beginning of this year she was told the tumour had grown and all treatment options had been exhausted. There was a glimmer of hope in April when an international panel of experts said her scans had been misread and that the tumour had not grown much.

But further tests in May showed a large amount of damage from previous chemotherapy and throughout June her condition worsened.

Last month her family said the money had helped to buy Julie an extra year with her daughters Libby, 13 and Ava Rose.

The announcement of her death was met with huge sadness on Julie’s Medical Fund Facebook page and tributes were paid to her courage.

“She was an amazing lady and a pleasure to know. She has two beautiful daughters who will keep a part of her here and always with us,” Morag Puffett said.

“Such an inspirational beautiful person who fought this with such courage,” wrote Marg Shacklock.

Claire Evans said: “Rest in peace Julie. What a superhero woman and incredible family you all are.”

And Geri Taylor added: “Julie was so brave and strong. May she rest in peace.”
