A TEENAGER has been banned from the roads after he was caught over the drink drive limit just 11 months after he passed his test.

Szymon Wierciszewski, 19, of Longthorpe Close, Toothill, pleaded guilty to driving a 60-plate VW Scirocco on Juno Way while above the drink drive limit on July 9.

Crown Prosecutor Pauline Lambert told the bench at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday that police had been called to the scene of a crash on Juno Way at around midnight where they found the damaged Scirocco with its airbags deployed and Wierciszewski sat alongside.

He was taken to Gablecross Police Station where he provided a lowest reading of 66mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal driving limit is 35mcgs.

His defence, Mike Pulsford, explained that his client had only been on the roads for 11 months and had misjudged how much he was able to drink. He had clipped the curb and then lost control of his vehicle.

He added that his client, who travels as a stock supervisor around the country, knew he would be losing his job as a result of the inevitable disqualification that would come with this offence.

The magistrates fined him £120 and ordered he pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service along with a £30 victim surcharge.

He was also banned from driving for 19 months, although this will be reduced if he completes a drink drivers' awareness course.
