SCHOOL’S out for summer... but not if you are a young, aspiring actor who wants to learn theatre skills.

Shoebox Theatre, in Theatre Square, Swindon, is hosting a Summer School in acting, stage combat, puppetry and comedy with a team of professionals taking the courses.

Royal Shakespeare Company Associate, Tom Jordan, is the expert who will be tackling stage combat.

Tom teaches at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Stage Fight Club and has choreographed fights for a number of productions across the UK. Bee Daws is another theatremaker on the team who will be taking the courses in puppetry.

The summer school is designed for young people aged between 11 and 16.

“The courses have been designed to give young performers an introduction into a variety of theatre skills, which will be invaluable for those looking to continue studying or working in the performing arts,” said Luke Marquez, artistic director of the Shoebox.

There are no auditions and the five day course begins on Monday, August 14 and runs daily from 9am to 4pm. There will be a limited number of 16 students per class. The summer school sets out to challenge, educate and build confidence in young theatremakers in a fun and accessible way.

Summer school costs £125. Visit shoeboxtheatre.org.uk.
