A VIOLENT confrontation involving dozens of teenagers just yards from a primary school appears to have been more serious than first acknowledged.

Earlier this week, Wiltshire Police appealed for witnesses to come forward with information about an incident that left a 16-year-old with what they described as "cuts and bruising to his legs".

It took place at around 5pm on Friday, July 28, on the footpath which runs past Lainesmead Primary School.

But information that has since come to light has revealed that the attack actually involved a knife and the victim's injuries were the result of being stabbed.

The Adver understands that a small number of teenage boys, perhaps as few as two, were sitting in the park adjacent to the path when they were confronted by a larger group numbering as many as 30.

A nucleus of that group, around six, are reported to have attacked the two boys who despite trying to fend off their attackers were injured in the ensuing confrontation.

One sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital. His wounds were not life threatening but he is understood to be shaken up by the terrifying incident.

Wiltshire Police declined to comment further on the specific circumstances but their appeal for witnesses continues.

Detective Constable Sandra Higgins-Hughes, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’d like to speak to anyone who was in the area at this time. If you heard or saw the altercation or anything suspicious please contact Swindon CID.”

If you can help Wiltshire Police with their enquiries, you can contact DC Higgins-Hughes on 101.

If you would prefer to provide information anonymously then you can via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
