THIEVES stole a young man’s dream car from the drive below his bedroom window after breaking into his home during the night.

The bright red Mercedes AMG A45 with a personalised number plate was Josh Woods’ pride and joy.

But he could hardly believe it when his shocked mother woke him on early Thursday morning to tell him it had been taken.

No one in the family had heard anything in the night and they only discovered their home had been burgled when his father got up at 6.15am to go to work.

He was about to put the kettle on when he noticed the handle of the back door was in the wrong position. When he checked it he realised it had been broken.

When Josh’s mother looked outside she saw immediately that his car was gone from the drive and ran upstairs to tell him.

“I just couldn’t believe it, to be honest,” said the 23-year-old who had saved hard to buy the £35,000 car and is paying it off on finance.

“It is pretty much my dream car and I managed to get it last year in October. I’ve always wanted that one. It is a real top end sporty car.”

All the family are light sleepers and Josh’s room is in the front of the house in Liskeard Way, but no one heard the car being taken and they suspect it may have been pushed away from the house before being started.

Police told the family CCTV cameras caught it at 4.30am at Blagrove and again 20 minutes later heading towards Sutton Benger. Later sightings put it in the Midlands.

Because it is thought to be one of only a few cars of its type in the town, Josh and his family believe it was targeted because of its rarity and high value. An iPhone and Josh’s work phone were both ignored by the thieves who just took the Mercedes keys and the keys to his mother’s car.

“I just feel sorry for them. They are complete idiots,” said Josh, who runs his own garage door fitting business. “People work hard for something and someone can just take it without doing anything for it. They just ruin people’s lives.”

He is anxiously hoping for news of the car. Meanwhile the locks are being changed on the house and his mum’s car.

Anyone with information about the theft or who spots the car, which has the registration JO54 WDS, should contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
