FOUR plucky Tesco employees pedalled their way to fundraising success on Saturday by cycling to all of the town’s nine stores in the name of charity.

From Liden to Cricklade, Priory Vale to Highworth, Andy Brown, 35, Gavin Mitcham, 29, Samantha Thomas, 42 and Zak Keegan, 22, decided to take on the mammoth challenge as part of Tesco's ongoing partnership with Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.

All the money they raise will also be split with Brighter Futures and Scannapeal.

The foursome set off from Tesco Metro in The Parade on Saturday with their colleagues cheering them as they left.

Customer services manager Gavin said: “The idea was to do a collection at every point and we’ve been doing things at the front of the store but we thought if we visited every store we could collect a little more. It is amazing that we've already been able to raise £1,632 through sponsorship.

“We have done little bits of training so we expected the ride to kill but we’ve tried to prepare as much as we can.

“With Tesco, it is like a happy town and so we wanted to do something to incorporate all the shops together.

“A massive thanks must be paid to the customers for their support but also our colleagues who have sponsored us. It is a great team and I am personally proud of these guys coming in to support the cause.”

Clocking up a total of 54.2 miles throughout the course of the day, the team completed the ride in just over five hours - leaving time to stop at every store to have a cuppa and chat.

Andy, community champion added:

“We initially wanted to get to John O’Groats but we thought we best build up to that.

“This is just the start of us raising money for charity and next year we hope to plan something bigger and better.”

Michelle Hobbs, who is the community champion for the Tesco Express store in Ocotal Way, also came along to cheer off the group on their cycle.
