Two police community support officers were forced to cut short a drop-in session with the Assistant Chief Constable in Royal Wootton Bassett today after fears there was a man on the railway line.

PCSO Andy Singfield and new recruit PCSO Josh Sherratt had been at the drop-in session with ACC Kier Pritchard at the town's Memorial Hall when their services were called upon amid fears for the man's safety.

A spokesman for Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Police said: "They had to leave early and help officers conduct an area search for an unknown male who had been seen on the railway line in Royal Wootton Bassett. The male wasn't located but was confirmed as no longer being on the railway by Network Rail staff."

ACC Pritchard had been in town today to discuss residents' policing concerns.
