A NEW nursery in Kembrey Park is having an open day today before opening fully in September.

Playsteps Day Nursery is expanding from its main site in Church Place to a second building located in the business park.

The nursery's open day will last from 3pm to 8pm in Unit 6 Pine Court, giving parents and little ones a chance to check out the new facility.

It will be open 51 weeks a year from 7.45am to 5.45pm, offering childcare and early education for 28 children aged five and under.

Jo Morris, Playsteps owner and manager, was looking forward to the new nursery opening on Friday September 1.

She said: "It's really exciting, we've had our current site for 12 years and been looking to expand for some time so we're thrilled.

"It's a lovely building in a very busy business park and we hope to meet the needs of the families who work there."

The new nursery is using the same site as the Panda Day Nursery, which opened in February this year but closed just two months later when the West Swindon Family Centre, which managed that nursery, went into liquidation and was forced to close.

The charity behind the centre stopped receiving government funding in December and struggled to deal with spiralling costs and a sudden lack of money.

The West Swindon Family Centre's Panda Pre-School also had to close, leading to a total of 15 staff being made redundant.

The Playsteps Day Nursery will fill the gap left by the unfortunate closures.

Jo added: "There's been a need for a nursery there and a couple of others have tried to make it work and haven't been able to, but we hope that we can make a good go of it.

"We want to make the nursery a 'home from home' environment for everyone who uses it."
