REGGAE lovers can look forward to a night of music from across the world next month.

The sixth annual Reggae Garden Family Festival will be held at the Town Gardens on September 9.

The celebration of all things reggae will feature stars The Twinkle Brothers and local heroes SN Dubstation.

Family entertainment will be provided by the Reggae Rangers, who are offering everything from hair braiding to cake baking.

And while they are enjoying the mellow reggae strains, party-goers can feast on food from Caribbean takeaway Moshan Grill.

The festival, which takes place in the Old Town Bowl, has its origins in a large scale party thrown at the old Bell pub on High Street.

AJ Mayhew, 31, one of the party organisers, said: “1,400 people turned up over the day – and the Reggae Garden was born.”

The reggae lover described the appeal of the music: “I think even though it’s quite niche, in that it’s not all over the radio all the time, you can’t really not like it. Reggae is positive – it’s not offensive to anyone.

“We always concentrate on bringing the very highest calibre of artists to the festival.”

This year the festival features two European bands: Italian band Raphael and Greek group Blend Mishkin and Roots Evolution.

“We’ve got them as part of their European tour,” said AJ.

The Reggae Garden Family Festival is on Saturday September 9. from 12pm to 10pm. Advance tickets are £15, under-14s are £5 and under-fives go free. Tickets on the gate are £20.
