A CYCLIST who was rushed to hospital after a serious crash in Swindon last night is being treated for a head injury.

At approximately 8.40pm, a silver Volkswagen Polo was travelling east along Queens Drive away from the Magic Roundabout.

As it passed the ambulance station, a pedal cyclist was coming towards the vehicle and a collision took place.

Paramedics raced to the scene and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance team landed nearby to assist.

The cyclist, a 37-year-old Swindon man, received extensive treatment at the scene before being taken to the Major Tauma Centre at Southmead Hospital.

Wiltshire Police say he is believed to have sustained a head injury.

The eastbound carriageway of Queens Drive was closed for approximately four hours while collision investigators carried out extensive enquiries at the scene.

Wiltshire Police are now keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who saw either the Volkswagen Polo or the cyclist prior to it.
