A WOMAN was banished from her own court hearing for shouting abuse at magistrates.

Evelyn Sarah Harmeston, 46, of Cromer Court, Swindon, admitted using racially abusive language.

But magistrates were forced to conduct the court hearing in Harmeston’s absence, after she persistently interrupted the court at one point telling magistrates she “didn’t like being bullied”.

Chairman of the bench Peter Barrand said: “You are not doing yourself any good by speaking to us like that.”

As she was taken down to the cells, Harmeston, who suffers bipolar disorder, shouted: “You don’t like the truth.”

The court heard that, on August 5, Harmeston was seen walking through the town centre “shouting and swearing”.

She later argued with a bus driver on Fleming Way.

The court heard that she shouted at a man walking by the bus. As police arrested her for using abusive language, she is said to have used a racial slur.

Harmeston also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to the court.

Magistrates fined her £75 and ordered her to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and £85 in costs.

A fine of £50 for failing to surrender to the court was deemed to have been paid in time served in custody.
