A NEW interactive map shows how much you need to earn per hour to buy a house in each of Britain’s postcodes.

Even if you aren't thinking of buying, or moving, seeing where you can – and can’t – afford to live is fascinating.

Each pin shown by your search represents a postcode and shows how much you’d need to earn per hour to buy a property there.

In Swindon the main postcodes and their costs are:

SN2 £12.85

SN1 £13.50

SN3 £16.28

SN25 £16.32

SN5 £16.37

SN4 £19.80

SN6 £21.93

SN26 £28.57

In Royal Wootton Bassett (SN4) you need to earn £19.80 and hour while in Chippenham costs range from £19.81 to £22.29.

In Devizes (SN10) you can expect to have to earn £19.10 and hour while in Marlborough (SN8) a heady £31.73 is needed.

The figures are based on a single person working a 37.5-hour week and mortgage repayments being 35% of the income.

The site also ranks postcodes by cheapest and most expensive in an area.
