A YOUNG woman who disposed of a knife used in a street stabbing has been warned she could be facing jail.

Lauren Wyatt pleaded guilty to a charge of perverting the course of justice when she appeared at Swindon Crown Court.

The 19-year-old admitted getting rid to the weapon which had been used by her then 17-year-old boyfriend Kalem Smith.

Chris Smyth, for Wyatt, asked for the case to be adjourned so a pre-sentence report can be compiled on her.

He said his client, who has no previous convictions, has a number of potential psychiatric issues and has been attending at Sandalwood Court.

Judge Robert Pawson agreed and released Wyatt, of Bright Street, on conditional bail to Wednesday September 20.

He said "You have pleaded guilty to a very serious offence which is almost always met with immediate custodial sentences, I am not going to hide that from you.

"But you are only 19, have no previous convictions and I understand you have some vulnerabilities yourself."

Smith, now 18, carried out the assault on a 26-year-old man at the junction of Bath Road and Victoria Road in the early hours of Sunday, November 6.

He initially pleaded not guilty to charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a knife but changed his plea before a trial could start.

The teenager, who has a psychotic disorder, is currently on remand at a secure unit so his mental health can be assessed before he is sentenced.

In July he was placed on an interim hospital order for 12 weeks which could be extended while he is assessed.
