AN OXFORD Brookes graduate has been chosen for this year’s Platform project by Modern Art Oxford.

Freddie Davies, who graduated from the University's School of Art in June, is one of three artists selected to participate in the project – an annual award designed to nurture new talent from the south east and support art school graduates through the period between graduation and life as a professional artist.

Mr Davies said: “I was incredibly pleased to be selected for the Platform programme – it feels really encouraging to be granted recognition in this transitional period between graduating and defining my career path, and I’m very excited to share my work on a platform as prominent as Modern Art Oxford. "

“It’s been great to meet the other selected artists and I’m grateful to have a chance to develop relations with other artists from other universities."

His work, which includes painting and photography, focuses on moments of quiet away from everyday life.

Two other art school graduates, Nathan Caldecott and Laura Nicholson from Ruskin School of Art at Oxford University and the University of Reading respectively, have joined the young artist in presenting their work in a series of solo exhibitions which began in July.

Platform is a partnership between five galleries and Modern Art Oxford will nominate one of the artists for the final Platform prize which includes a year long professional development programme.

Mr Davies' exhibition began August 30 and will be on display until September 17 in Modern Art Oxford’s Project Space, Pembroke Street.
