CRICKETERS swapped their bats for golf clubs and raised £700 for an end of life charity during their annual fundraising day.

Sports fanatics at Burbage and Easton Cricket Club tried their hand at golf, wheeling round the course in golf buggies and teeing off on the green in aid of Prospect Hospice in Wroughton.

The charity was chosen after several players revealed that close family members had received end of life care or support from the hospice.

Cricket player Jon Chandler’s late father was cared for by Prospect Hospice nurses and he praised the choice to donate to the good cause.

Mr Chandler said: “Like me, many of the people at the club will have known someone who has been supported by Prospect Hospice and are keen to support its activities, especially as it now has its outreach centre nearby at Savernake Hospital in Marlborough.

“The main purpose of the golf day was to raise funds for the cricket club, and that raised £1,000, but our raffle is always for charity, and I was really pleased that the club agreed that it would be Prospect Hospice that would benefit this year. “

The raffle was boosted by a signed football from the Manchester United Foundation during the golf day that was held at Upavon Golf Club.

Genevieve Arney, events and community fundraising manager at Prospect Hospice said: “The Burbage and Easton Royal Cricket Club have done brilliantly in raising these important funds for us, and we would like to thank them on behalf of the local people in the area who will benefit from this generous donation towards our care.”
