The Akers Way reconstruction project has moved into its final phase this week, with access to local buildings affected as a result.

The fourth phase of the project will take place between Nova Hreod Academy and Cheney Manor Industrial Estate Road, and is due to be completed by the end of September.

During this time, residents of Beaney View and Slade Street will have no access to Akers Way, but bollards will be lifted between Slade Street and Bates Way to allow access from Moredon Road.

Access to Nova Hreod Academy is now via the west section of Akers Way.

The diversion route of the remaining period of the work will be via Purton Road, Moredon Road and Cheney Manor Road.

The works on Akers Way have been ongoing since April, when the road was first closed between the St Mary’s Church roundabout and Cheney Manor industrial estate.

They are being carried out to provide extensive reconstruction to the road, and drivers have been urged to allow time for delays throughout the duration of the project.

In total the scheme, which is addressing problems with the deteriorating concrete base of the road, is expected to cost Swindon Borough Council £900,000.
