FIREFIGHTERS demonstrating a rescue of people from a burning aircraft will be one of the highlights of a vintage and wartime rally at Cotswold Airport.

The former RAF station’s open day on September 30 features displays by a lifeboat hovercraft, wartime re-enactments, flypasts by vintage aircraft and a hot air balloon night glow set to music.

Steam traction engines, pleasure flights in light aircraft and balloons, a huge display of vintage military and emergency services vehicles and aircraft are also on the 12-hour programme.

The event will raise money for the Royal British Legion and Flying for Freedom, which helps injured servicemen and women learn to fly microlights.

Earlier this year a team of pilots trained by the charity braved thunderstorms and high winds on an expedition taking in the Alps and the battlefields of France.

The trip was part of their preparation for an ultimate challenge that they hope will see them become the first team to fly a microlight in Antarctica to the South Pole.

Tickets cost £5 and are available from the Everyman Theatre box office at everymantheatre.co.uk or on the day. The gates open at 9am.
