AROUND £40,000 worth of Class A drugs was seized by police this morning (Sept 8).

Shortly after midnight, officers were called to Pinehurst following reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

A Ford MPV vehicle was stopped in the Hunters Grove area and the driver was detained.

The driver, a 32-year-old man, from Swindon was taken to Gablecross custody to allow for a Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act search to be carried out.

A search was also conducted of the vehicle and a large quantity of what is believed to be class A drugs was located.

He was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and remains in custody at this time.

Superintendent Adrian Burt said: “The drugs seized during this incident would have a street value of approximately £40,000. It is likely that this was destined for the streets of Swindon – I am pleased that we have been able to disrupt a chain of business and prevent these drugs from reaching some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

“The community should feel reassured that we at Wiltshire Police are committed to tackling drugs and the associated criminality, and would encourage members of the public to report any concerns to 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
