Sarah Singleton looks at this week's theatre shows

Lette’s talk about our Best Laid Plans...

BEST-SELLING author Kathy Lette will be visiting Swindon Arts Centre for a Girls Night Out on Friday.

In a show she calls a psychological strip tease, Australian-born Kathy will be charting the female experience from Puberty Blues to Menopause Blues – with lots of hilarious stories about love and lust, men and marriage, childbirth and toy boys – along the way.

Kathy will also be talking about life as the mother of a child with autism, and introducing her new book Best Laid Plans, a poignant comedy about the highs and lows of surviving that time in parenthood when your children start having a sex life.

Girls Night Out is Kathy’s first live show, and will also include some curious tales about making the Queen laugh, hiding Julian Assange in her attic and close encounters with George Clooney.

Tickets are £18.50 with a discount for Friends.

Making up Shakespeare

AN entirely new and unique Shakespeare play – improvised on the spot using suggestions from their audience at the Swindon Arts Centre – will be performed on Saturday by Impromptu Shakespeare.

Planned to delight both Shakespeare buffs and Shakespeare beginners, the play will include lots of the elements customarily found in the works of the bard – love and poetry, comedy and tragedy, mistaken identity, power struggles, the supernatural and more.

The show promises an hour of fun as the company brings you a Shakespeare play with a Swindonian slant.

Tickets are £12.50 with concessions available. To book, call 01793 524481 or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.

On the farm...

ADAM Henson, star of BBC television’s Countryfile and probably the best-known farmer in the UK, will be bringing stories of his farming life to Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre on the new rearranged date of Monday, Ocotber 9.

He will be talking about British agriculture, his television career and the running of the Cotswold Farm Park. He also has a new book, A Farmer and His Dog, published this month. The audience will have a chance to ask questions, and there will be a book signing after the show. Tickets are £23.50 from 01793 524481 or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.
