WHEN Tom Scholes headed for Barbury Castle to take some pictures, little did he know he would take the shot which scooped the Swindon Camera Club’s Picture of the Month prize before even getting there.

Tom, 71, who is retired, noticed the dramatic lighting as he saw a combine harvester at work in a nearby field.

He then took the picture chosen by Advertiser chief photographer Thomas Kelsey as the camera club’s winning picture for August, with £50 in Love2Shop vouchers as the prize.

“The sun shining through made it a bit different from just a picture of the combine harvester and tractor together,” said Tom, of Wroughton, who uses a Sony RX-10 bridge camera.

The winning picture for July, a portrait of Ringo Johns, was taken by Terry Winter, 70, of South Marston.

Terry, who only took up photography when he retired, was one of the earliest camera club members when it was set up earlier this year.

He said: “I was delighted to win the prize. The number of members has shot up to more than 300 now and the standard of pictures submitted seems to be getting higher all the time.”

If you would like to join the club – and be in with a chance of winning the Picture of the Month prize of £50 in Love2Shop vouchers– you need to register by emailing ian.parker@wiltshire.newsquest.co.uk with your name, location, and daytime phone number.

Each month the winning picture is chosen from those published in the Advertiser, usually on a Friday.
