A FLOURISHING mums’ group based in Swindon is planning a black-tie event for children.

The teeny tots will be invited to dress like toffs to give parents the opportunity to meet up and raise money for charity.

Facebook group 50 Shades of Mum started only three months ago. The name was suggested by members and proved to be the most popular.

And it has already grown to contain over 1,800 mothers, mostly within Swindon but with members throughout the country.

The mums use the group to seek support, offer assistance and host games and raffles, and have recently started holding face-to-face meetups in the town.

Steph Owen, 25, who has two young sons and is one of the group’s administrators, said: “It’s a group of us girls, all the administrators are from Swindon. We are all mums between the ages of 20 and 26.

“It’s a support and advice page and we have games and free raffles and stuff like that.

“We set it up about two or three months ago.

“The administrators all know each other, but we don’t know everybody.”

And she added: “We’re just trying to do something good.”

Steph estimates that 80 per cent of the group’s members are from Swindon, which has encouraged them to arrange some meetings in person.

The Children’s Black Tie Charity Event, on October 21 will be held at Pinetrees Community Centre.

“We are going to have a disco, face painting, and other activities and we have Paw Patrol coming from Swindon Mascots.

“We are doing a raffle, and we are just trying to raise as much money as possible for the Special Care Baby Unit at Great Western Hospital.”

Recognising that not everyone will have a tiny tuxedo to hand, the organisers are asking kids to come along wearing the smartest casual clothes they have.

There’s no such dress code for parents, and one adult can come along free with every child.

Tickets are £5, and £2.50 for babies under one year old (but £3.50 with food). Additional adults are £2.
