FAMILIES put their best foot forward for the NSPCC at the weekend as they helped to raise almost £700 by walking a stretch of the famous Ridgeway.

Around 50 people took part in the 10K fundraiser on Sunday, which was organised for the first time by the children’s charity’s Shrivenham volunteer committee – part of the Swindon and Wiltshire branch.

Participants, each paying £10 to take part, enjoyed trekking through the area of outstanding national beauty, taking in the fascinating history, ancient chalk hills and famous Uffington White Horse.

Young walkers also embraced a special teddy bear trail and nature quiz on the way, while everyone was rewarded with tea and cake at the end.

The cash raised was supplemented by further donations from the public at the finish line, included cake sales.

Caroline Morgan, NSPCC community fundraising manager for Wiltshire, said: “I’d like to thank all the volunteers for organising this event and everyone who took part. It was a huge success and I’m sure it will be back.

“The walk was challenging at points, but the views were amazing and there was a great atmosphere among the group, a number of which were strangers who wanted to come along for the fresh air and to support the NSPCC in its fight for every childhood.”
