JAMES Dunne is happy to be seen and heard in the middle of the park but insists he is no lone voice among the County Ground squad.

The midfielder returned in a holding position for Town in last weekend’s 3-2 home victory over Stevenage, with manager David Flitcroft acknowledging the former Portsmouth and Cambridge United man’s ‘controlled aggression’ had been missed in the preceding midweek defeat at Notts County.

The Swindon chief described Dunne as carrying “a lot of weight and respect on a football pitch’’ but while the player is happy to take on the task of directing operations on the field, he points out that Town are not a squad full of shrinking violets.

“If you look at the players that the gaffer has brought in there are a lot of leaders,’’ said Dunne.

“I like to lead and tell people on the pitch. That’s the way of football, you have to organise people and you can’t be silent, otherwise nothing would get done.

“I’ve always been that sort of player. To be a leader out there and break up the play, stuff like that.

“The gaffer has brought in a lot of experienced players and there are a lot of leaders already in the team, so even though it’s me sometimes shouting and the one you hear the most, other players are saying their bit.’’

The Flitcroft era at Town gets national exposure with the Sky cameras at Forest Green Rovers tonight but with the focus likely to be more on the newly-promoted home side, Dunne is content that the visitors can get their heads down and get on with business.

“You do know it’s on TV but you don’t really take that into consideration,’’ he added.

“We want to go there and work on what we’ve done all week and our performances in the away games that we’ve had so far.

“They (Rovers) have done well last season and they’ve come up, but we’ll go into the game like we have when we played Luton, Exeter and teams like that.

“We’ll go into the game in the right frame of mind and attitude to get something from the game.

“We just have to go about our business. We’ve worked on our shape all week.

“We’ve worked on the training ground and I thought we did that really well on Saturday. I thought we controlled the game and hopefully we can build on from there now.’’
