PARTS of the hospital were evacuated last night following reports of a “dangerous device”.

Two departments at Great Western Hospital were evacuated as a precaution.

Officers from Wiltshire Police were called to the hospital at around 11pm last night after an “incident” on one of the wards.

Police arrested a 47-year-old man, who remains in custody.

The incident is not believed to be terrorism-related.

A spokesman to Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: “Wiltshire Police attended an incident at the Great Western Hospital last night following credible claims a potentially dangerous device had been brought into the building.

“Staff acted quickly, calmly and professionally to ensure patients and colleagues were kept safe at all times and, as a precaution, two departments were evacuated.

“As soon as police confirmed there was no immediate danger and that the hospital was safe to enter, staff and patients returned with normal service resuming shortly after.”
