A PENSIONER from Swindon has won £11,000 in a legal settlement with a dentist.

Johnny Delicata, 74, claims he was left in pain, unable to eat solid foods, and suffered the embarrassment of a loose denture after treatment at One Wood Street Advanced Dental Care in Old Town.

Insurers agreed to settle the claim of negligence against Dr Paulina Delert, though the dentist did not admit liability.

In January 2012, Mr Delicata says he visited the dental practice to have six dental implants fitted.

“At first everything seemed fine. But when I had a denture fitted over the implants at a subsequent appointment things started to go wrong. About three days after the denture was fitted it felt painful. It was painful on and off for the next few months but I put it down to the fact it was a new denture,” he said.

Nine months later, when Mr Delicata went for a check-up he says he was told one of the implants had fractured.

Mr Delicata says he underwent a bone graft, a sinus lift and had his implant removed in a bid to rectify the problem, but he was still uncomfortable and went to another dentist.

He then contacted the Dental Law Partnership and in the summer the case was successfully resolved.

A spokesman for One Wood Street Advanced Dental Care said Dr Delert had since retired and gone back to Poland.
