FIREFIGHTERS rescued four children from a house fire in Crombey Street.

Crews from Swindon fire station were called to a kitchen fire in a mid-terraced house on the town centre street at around 2am this morning. Neighbours called the fire service after hearing a smoke alarm.

Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used hose jets to extinguish the fire.

Four children were rescued from the house and treated for smoke inhallation by paramedics.

It was not necessary to take the children to hospital and the youngsters were left in the care of a family member, a spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said.
