FAIRFORD Town boss Jody Bevan showed there is nothing better than getting the job done yourself as he scored a late equaliser for his side from the bench to snatch a 4-4 draw with Ascot United.

Bevan’s side are yet to record a Premier Division win but battled back from 4-1 down to earn a share of the spoils at Cinder Lane.

Trailing to two Ascot goals, Lee Smith halved the deficit to make it 2-1, but Ascot soon pulled away again as they went into the interval with a restored two-goal cushion.

In the second half, three became four, but an inspired comeback from Fairford followed.

Liam Gale got the ball rolling by grabbing their second and Ben Saunders added another before Bevan, who substituted himself on, got a last-ditch brace.

“It was an eventful game,” said Bevan.

“It’s like deja-vu with us at the moment. We conceded with the first attack that came our way after about 15 minutes. Then we found ourselves 2-1 down, I had to get into the lads at half time.

“We hit the woodwork four times and had a goal disallowed. I looked at the clock and there was nothing to lose, so I chucked myself on.”

In Division One West, New College came close to registering their first points of the season, but were forced to leave empty handed following a 4-3 defeat to Cirencester Town Development.

New manager Gareth Davies has settled into his role with Shrivenham, his side picking up three points with a 6-1 win over Letcombe. Rob Lincoln bagged three, Josh Fowler two and Adam Rudman also notched.
