THERMO Fisher Scientific, based in Covingham, opened its doors to the public on Saturday.

The site, previously known as Patheon, has recently gone through a global acquisition and is now Patheon, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

With this change has come new growth at the Swindon site. At least 40 new jobs are expected to be created this year, with more opportunities expected in the next 12 months.

The open day was held to discuss the new job opportunities in Swindon, with staff sharing their experience and knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry with job hunters, locals and students.

Stephanie Jones, visiting with her family, said: “All staff here have shown a real passion for what they do. My daughter was particularly interested in the apprenticeship opportunities and having New College on site to discuss the option of a lab technician was brilliant.”

Recruitment agency Pertemps was also at the event, supporting the temporary staffing needs of the site.

Nigel Head from Pertemps said: "It was great to see so many people. Pertemps has been happy to partner Patheon, now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific. There is a real buzz about the place and I hope this has attracted some talented candidates for the site."
