Just days remain for energetic supporters to run their way to completing a virtual challenge in the name of charity.

Brighter Futures’ Virtual Run 2017 has already seen budding athletes dig out their trainers, as they look to earn recognition and raise money for charity by completing an active endeavour.

Those who walk, jog or run 5km in September are eligible for a hero medal, and those who complete 70 miles across the month will receive a special limited-edition version.

Chloe Thomas, the charity’s community and events fundraiser, said: “We’ve had quite a few people take it on. We had two options: you could do anything from 5km onwards, and people have sent in their stories about why they want to do it.

“Some are because they want to support Brighter Futures, some because they want to get more active in September, and some because they’ve had great care at Great Western Hospital and want to give something back.

“It’s just a really great way for people who might not want to take part in big events like marathons, half-marathons or 10km runs to get out and stretch their legs with their family or their dog. And they still get a medal, so they’ve been part of something.”

Among the first to complete the challenge was Charlotte Cobb, who wanted to help following her care at Great Western Hospital.

Chloe said: “She did the virtual run this year, and our bike ride.

“She completed her 5km on September 1. She wanted to support us because she knows some people who need treatment and she also had some really great care at Great Western Hospital.”

All money raised through sponsorship, or donated by people taking part of their registration, will towards the radiotherapy appeal. For more information, visit www.entrycentral.com/BFV.
