MORE than £250 was raised in aid of CLIC Sargent at a craft stall in Eldene’s Morrisons store.

The shop’s community champion, 58 year-old Leanne Hyde, from Covingham, single-handedly manned the stall to sell the donated wares.

She said: “My husband Michael has prostate cancer. We have spent seven weeks going to Oxford for radiotherapy, which is bad enough, but when you see a child going past it hits you hard.

“Morrisons has been partnered with CLIC Sargent for three years now and we hope to raise £8m for them. The things they do are amazing. They train nurses, help out with travel costs. They even provide a little place for you to wash your clothes whilst you stay with your child in hospital.”

All of the jewellery, clothes, toys and other items were handcrafted by staff members, their relatives, and customers.

“You name it, they make it, I’ll sell it,” said Leanne.

Among the hand-knitted scarves and toddler socks, was a raffle which contributed nearly £100 to the total.

“I’m going to be running something like this every single month, and I will be out here every time I have a CLIC Sargent week so keep an eye out.”
