TIME has been called on Toothill Community Centre’s bar, following a “thorough examination” of the bar’s accounts.

Trustees of the charity that run the centre made the decision to close the bar last night.

Jane Francis, a member of the committee, said the trustees announced “with regret, due to our requirement to adhere to charity law, we have ceased our relationship with the trading company who currently manage the community centre bar”.

She said: “We held a governance review into the charity, then we looked at the governance of the trading arm. We conducted a thorough examination of the accounts and we’ve held three meetings with the directors.

“We’re desperately upset about it.”

The community centre has been working with Swindon Borough Council on the governance review

It is expected that up to two jobs will be lost with the closure of the bar. “We will go through the correct process to establish what redundancy they are entitled to,” said Jane. They will have our support to manage the closure.”

The bar is not expected to reopen, although its closure will not affect the rest of the centre.

Plans for a refurbishment of the centre next year would not be affected, she said.
