AN enraged ex-boyfriend smashed his former partner with a chair after she refused to let him move back in with her.

Sajid Mahmood, 48, launched at the woman after unexpectedly turning up at her Shrivenham Road home on June 21 this year.

The pair began arguing and Mahmood threatened to tell everyone she had been clubbing and drinking, saying he would find a new woman if she didn't let him move back in.

He then grabbed a kitchen chair and brought it down on her with all his strength, sending the jug of Ribena she was carrying flying across the room.

Their horrified young child watched the savage attack unfold.

Mahmood appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court where he admitted a single count of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutor Kate Prince said: "The defendant and the complainant were in a relationship and split up in 2013.

"The victim lives with four children from a previous relationship but also with the four-year-old daughter of her and Mr Mahmood.

"At 5.15pm he turned up unannounced at her address indicating that he wanted to see his daughter. She agreed to this but they were arguing.

"Mr Mahmood indicated that he wanted to move back in, which was against her wishes.

"He said 'If I can't live with you then I'm going to keep another woman'.

"She said 'Do what you want. You don't need to tell me'.

"He said 'You drink alcohol and go clubbing - I'm going to tell everyone'.

"The youngest child wanted a glass of Ribena and the victim was holding a large jug of it in her hand.

"She told him to calm down but he picked up a wooden kitchen stool, lifted it above his head and swung it at her.

"The chair hit her hand, causing the jug to smash.

"She was bleeding a lot from her right hand and Mr Mahmood offered to take her to the hospital, but she refused.

"She was taken to hospital by her friend's husband.

"She said it was the worst pain she had ever experienced."

Magistrates were shown a picture of a gaping bloody wound on her hand, which needed eight stitches to close.

Mahmood, of Beechcroft Road, Swindon, was released on bail ahead of a hearing at the crown court on a date yet to be set while an all-options pre-sentence report is prepared.
