TWO women raised more than £1,700 for charity by shaving their heads.

Teresa Gratton from Freshbrook and Donna Clifton from West Swindon braved the shave at The Windmill on Friday evening in front of friends and family to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Teresa said: "We were both a bit nervous but we were fine once they started shaving.

"It was brilliant, the pub was quite full and we are really pleased with our total.

"I actually quite like my new look, though it took some getting used to.

"My son's fiancee Victoria cut my hair and Donna's hairdresser cut hers.

The 57-year-old and her 46-year-old friend Donna hoped to raise £500 each.

Donna said: "Cancer affects absolutely everybody, it's heart-breaking.

"Lots of friends and family have gone through it and been given treatment and are luckily still with us but we have lost a few very special people as well.

"This head-shave made everyone feel good because they were putting something towards making a difference.

"My family were very supportive, it's been really good."

Teresa added: "It's a cause which is close to my heart.

"My mum had cancer and the Macmillan nurses looked after her, they were really good and I wanted to say thank you.

"I'd seen an advert for 'Brave the Shave' and thought it would be the best way to raise the most money for them.

"I had my head shaved once before for a Romanian orphanage charity so my family and friends weren't surprised when I mentioned that I was doing another one, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again."
