FLOYD Taylor is sure that Swindon Wildcats can have a trophy laden season this term.

Swindon have not opened their trophy cabinet since 2001 when, under the guise of Phoenix, they were crowned regular season champions in English Premier League.

However, since then, Wildcats have been left frustrated in the efforts to get some silverware.

But with four trophies up for grabs this season - NIHL South One, NIHL One, NIHL Cup and the Autumn Cup - the 22-year-old forward is hoping that the Link Centre outfit can get their hands on at least one.

“(It’s) very important (we win something this year), I don’t know the last time Swindon won any silverware,” Taylor said.

“We just hope we can do it, we hope we can be the group of people to win something for the fans.

“There are lot of trophies to win this year, we have just got to try and win as many as we can, even when we are playing the northern teams we have got to still up our game and beat them.”

The former Great Britain U20 international helped Cats get their Autumn Cup campaign off to the perfect start.

Taylor, who first broke into the Cats team in 2011, struck the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Telford Tigers at the Link Centre last Saturday in a man-of-the-match performance and then followed that up in Shropshire during the 3-1 success against the Tigers 24 hours later.

“I have some good chances this season but I haven’t been able to put them away, finally it is has happened,” he said.

“It was good to get my first goal of the year of the year which was a game winning game to make it even better.

“But we have all got to be better (than we were against Telford on Saturday).

“We were good in spells, although it was bad in more spells than it was good, we just have to improve.”

Cats return to NIHL South One action tomorrow night when they make the trip to Peterborough Phantoms before returning to the Link Centre on Sunday night when they host Hull Pirates in the Autumn Cup.

“Peterborough have always been a good team,” Taylor said. “They have a good coach and they work hard, so we just have to try and match their effort, win our battles and hopefully we can come out on top and win the game.

“Hull improved massively last season (after their first year in the EPL), I don’t know what they are like this year, I’m not sure what players they have got this year but I’m sure they will be a good side.”
