A SOCIAL media-savvy Gorse Hill school has won hundreds of pounds worth of sports kit.

Ferndale Community Primary School won a football training kit bundle worth £350 from tool firm HSS Hire.

The company, which has a branch off Great Western Way, challenged schools to send pictures of their teams in to the firm via social media.

To win the equipment, which included bibs, linesman flags, goal nets and footballs, the school needed to clock up the most likes and retweets on social media sites Twitter and Facebook.

A snap of Ferndale Primary’s grinning Year 5 and 6 football team won them 47 retweeets on Twitter – and clinched them the match-winning kit.

Sarah Prevost, deputy headteacher at Ferndale Community Primary School said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be receiving such a generous prize from the team at HSS Hire in Swindon. It’s often difficult to find funding for new equipment for young teams like ours so for us the victory came at the perfect time.”

Amy Davidson, HSS Swindon’s manager, said: “We’re committed to making sure that tradesmen are fully equipped, so we were really excited to award this great prize to Ferndale Primary and Nursery so that they too have the best equipment for the job.

“We are always looking for new ways to support the community around us, and running this competition seemed the perfect way to do it. We have no doubt that Ferndale will put the equipment to good use and we wish them all the best for the new sporting season ahead.”
