THE ROOF of a delivery lorry was left ragged after colliding with the Wootton Bassett Road railway bridge.

Police were called at 3.15pm this afternoon following reports that a DPD lorry had struck the bridge, leaving debris strewn across the road.

Firefighters attended the scene to check the bridge for structural damage.

Network Rail confirmed that the lorry struck a protective beam, rather than the bridge itself, leaving minor damage.

Trains were briefly forced to pass over the bridge at a snail-like five miles-per-hour. Normal service resumed at 3.30pm.

The road continues to be partially blocked and the DPD lorry has been moved onto the side of the road, beside the BMW garage.

The driver of the DPD lorry was unhurt, Wiltshire Police said.

Today's collision follows the most recent ones on September 11 and August 2.

  • Wootton Bassett Road has now been fully reopened again... until the next time.
