THE hunt for a Noel Gallagher lookalike spotted "licking windows" has been dropped - after the mystery man could not be found.

Police were called at 5.30pm on Sunday to reports that the Oasis guitar hero's doppelganger was licking windows and swigging from a bottle of cider in Swindon town centre.

But investigations were closed after no trace of the man could be found, police said today, effectively admitting they're going to Roll With It.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman told the Adver on Monday: “We received reports of a man resembling Noel Gallagher in Swindon at around 5.30pm yesterday who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was licking windows – not a Wonderwall and he may have been Half the World Away.

"It’s believed he was with another person, causing a general nuisance."

Noel Gallagher has responded to reports of his lookalike's antics.

The Oasis guitarist, who wrote '90s hits Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger, posted on Instagram: “Nowt to do with me, mate. I’m still away on holiday.”

Urban legend has it that the now estranged Gallagher brothers' band was named after Swindon's Oasis Leisure Centre. Noel Gallagher is said to have been inspired while a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets, who played at the venue.

In 2011 Liam Gallagher and his then band Beady Eye played at the Oasis.
