SWINDON volunteers have taken part in what they believe could be the largest walk in the country.

The ‘Step Out Swindon’ scheme saw no fewer than 110 people set off on the Haydon Health Walk from the Haydon Centre, Haydon Wick.

It was their first walk since taking over the scheme from Swindon Borough Council which has withdraw funding from the Walking for Health Scheme.

But a group of volunteers stepped in so regular walkers who enjoy the health and social benefits don’t miss out.

Haydon Health Walk is believed to be the largest in the country as flocks of people turned out for the launch

event.

Scheme co-ordinator Grahame Lee proudly cut the ribbon as hordes of happy walkers gathered behind him.

The scheme has seven regular walks, including in Wroughton, Penhill and Covingham.
