January was Swindon's sickest month on record, new figures show.
Newly published NHS statistics show that GPs signed 1,413 "fit notes" for Swindon workers in January of this year.
In June, the latest month for which data is available, Swindon GPs issued 1,176 fit notes.
The notes are issued by a family doctor after the first seven days an employee has been absent from work.
The experimental statistics, issued by NHS Digital, track the number of fit notes signed by doctors.
Currently, not all GP surgeries send data to the quango – with an estimated 34 per cent of working-age adults in Swindon captured in the report.
